Why on Earth would I Self-Publish?

So why did I decide to Self-Publish? Well, for starters, I’ve been trying for the better part of a decade to get published the “traditional” way. I have sent hundreds of query letters for multiple novels, and have nothing to show for it. To put it mildly, I am fed up.
I think Traditional Publishing suffers too much from the Good Old Boys complex. Either you know someone, or you get a copy/pasted rejection letter. I am sick of copy/pasted rejection letters. They are downright disrespectful. At least take the time to write out a real response! Tell me my query wasn’t any good. Tell me you don’t like the storyline. Tell me to go away! I’ll accept it.
The “I don’t think I’m the best fit for you” (or a variation of) is contrived and annoying. So I am done wasting time. I only have so many years on this Earth, and I’m not wasting another decade hoping and praying that I can find an “Agent” to represent me, and then hope and pray again that a Publisher will pick me up.
I am ready to take life by the horns and tell it to read my book.

So www.starvingwritersguild.com was born. I have colluded with some other author friends of mine, and we are going to do something about it! We want to self-publish, and host a website that supports self-published works.
There are advantages to self-publication. I can publish it when I want, and with whatever content I choose. The disadvantage is that I’m my own marketing agent. I have to do the legwork myself. Go to bookstores, or flea markets, or bathroom stalls, and hock my life’s work.
So why on Earth would I Self-Publish? Because I am done waiting, and I have the tools necessary to successfully self-publish. Namely, a website, and motivation. My goal for this website is not for self-glorification, in fact, it is something more humble. I want to be successful, so that I can show others how to be successful too. If I can do it, you can do it. If I can use this website to feature my novel, and market my book, then you can too. Seriously. In the future, I would love for anyone who wants to self-publish to seek our help.
That’s why I want to self-publish, so that I can learn the art of it, and then show others how to do it also. I believe it will be worth it to help new authors in this generation. Traditional Publishing is too difficult, and after a while good authors become jaded.
An author’s dream is for an audience to read their work.
Starving Writers Guild is a reference to how we starve for attention. It is our bread and butter for people to read our work, and comment/share. That is why we became authors in the first place. To inspire others with our imaginations!
If you wait a decade, then it is easy to become disenchanted and lose inspiration. It’s hard to find inspiration amidst melancholy and despair. I don’t want that to happen. There is too much talent out there for it to go to waste. Help me, so I can help you.
Please donate to this website.

I really love your books! It is one of the satisfying books I've read. It is not about finding what's perfect, but having something close anyway. This book really shows that sometimes everything happens for a reason and maybe not in the circumstances or way that we expected, but still it happens and it might not end the way we want, but afterwards, we find out it was for the best and you would want it to change. The characters meld together beautifully, such a great take on these kinds of stories!
